Cultural Lessons

Gujaga provides a series of cultural workshops for children and young people belonging to the La Perouse Aboriginal community. These workshops allow Elders and knowledge holders to pass on cultural skills to the next generation which includes

  • dance and songs,

  • traditional artefacts and implements making and use,

  • artwork including weaving, shell work and painting; and

  • basic bush skills

Previous community workshops held were supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Communication and the Arts Indigenous Languages and the Arts program.

Gujaga has been supporting the revitalisation of the Dharawal language for nearly two decades and implements language learning in a semi immersed program at Gujaga Childcare and Gujaga Preschool.

Gujaga also provides opportunity for adults to learn language through it’s Certificate I, II and III in Dharawal Language to ensure it is being used and reinforced in the home and community environments.
